Den Before & After

(Updated 7/8/12)
As y'all well know, we've been working on a few updates in the den (painted mirror, repaired fire place, hung oyster plates, un-hung oyster plates when my decorating demons took over, updated corbels on bar) and it's finally all wrapped up!

Just for kicks, here's the before before.  Loads of room for improvement, no?

The room looks amazing! I am quite impressed with all the things you designed and made yourself! I love the frame with "the boys" written on it. I have the same one in red that says "family" that I bought in a little boutique in Vermont. I wonder if it is made by the same artist?...

I am so inspired by your blog! We, too, live in an older home in Atlanta. I have been searching for fresh, traditional ideas for our home and have found it in your blog. I love your drapes. Do you have any tips or tutorials on making these? They are gorgeous!

Thank you for sharing your southern style.

Dixie Delights said...

KAB - Thanks so much for your sweet comments. I haven't done a tutorial on sewing drapery panels. I simply measure the finished length that I want them and add 2" for hems. I then cut my lining fabric the same length. Sew them facing sides together all the way around the rectangle, leaving a small part to flip it inside out. Then sew up your opening and hang! Clip rings are the easiest. Hope that helps...at least a little bit. xo

Truly lovely. I have a question, are you satisfied with your bamboo blinds? Do you get a lot of bright light? I would love to have them but I don't know living in Arizona if they would block out enough hot sunlight. Any ideas?

Dixie Delights said...

JMD - The bamboo blinds work great for us and they filter out enough light but we don't really have it blazing in like you might in AZ. My sister purchased lined bamboo shades that do filter out all the light. I'm not sure where she got them but it might be worth googling! Hope that helps...Amanda :-)

I love all of your rooms! We recently purchased an older home (same age), apparently near you! We shop at the Marietta Square and Love Street! My home is very similar to yours. I have a question...our den is very similar to yours and I'm having a difficult time deciding where to place our huge tv. I'd thought about above fireplace, not sure. Is your room rectangular and where, in relation to your fireplace, have you placed your tv??? Thanks in advance! Kim

I need an outdoor rug for my mudroom. The ikea sisal rugs with canvas border keep curling in the corners. Do you like this room's rug from Ballard? I was looking at them today and would like your feedback.

Jennifer - Ballard no longer sells this exact version. I have the newer one on my porch and it still curls at the edge a little - over a year later. Amanda

LOVE your room!! I'm painting my family room / kitchen Stone Hearth in the next couple weeks. Can you tell me what color the drapes and wingback chairs are? Thanks, Angela!
