Mapped Out

I mentioned in my last big boy room progress report that I framed a copy of the Savannah River and Wassaw Sound nautical chart (procured from River Services in Savannah) in the gallery wall.

Weeelllll, the original ended up inside the secretary - I cut it down to size and used glue dots to adhere it to the back of the piece in about three minutes.  I love love love the look.  (And must totally give Sister and Mother props for mapping out their respective secretaries first.)

Buuuuuut, before I cut the map, I hauled it off to Kinko’s to make a few color copies.  I wrestled with the darned thing for about fifteen minutes to get a handful of copies of various parts of the map.  (Though that fifteen minutes included deciphering the machine’s gazillion buttons and options while trying to keep the baby from pinching his preciously fat fingers in the swinging waste compartment built into the cabinet AND trying to carry on a coherent convo with K from Supper Club who also just so happened to be spending her Saturday at the Kinko’s.  Happenin’ place.)  The baby “helped” me modge podge the copies to the gold “W” (Hobby Lobby) that was in his nursery.  We cut the copies into manageable pieces and just followed the instructions on the bottle.  It took no time at all and is one of my favorite details in the room!

You can rest assured that I’ve mentioned to Honey at least a hundred times how far I made that $20 map go…

Flattered for the feature at Craft Gossip!

  1. I share a love of maps and adore all your projects - this map looks great inside the secretary! Your table on your porch is one of my faves too.

  2. DYING TO see the whole room! I love the Secretary - what an awesome idea!...it all looks fab so far!

  3. That is going to look just fantastic! The room will last for years for your son.

We just moved into a new house and my hubby has a nice big office. We are waiting on cabinets to be installed and after that I'll start decorating. He wants to use lots of maps...you are giving me great ideas. :)

  4. Love the "W" with colors to match his room. Did you choose the book "Are you my Mother?" for any particular reason??: :-D (remember baby dubya's family pic from school?) lol

    1. Haha Donna :-). I picked it because it was blue but it probably wouldn't hurt to read it again with the baby a few more times!

  5. I love the map, framed map, and the letter map!!!!

  6. This is fabulously cute.

  7. What a fantastic way to use a map. I love the W covered with it. That is really super looking. Great ideas. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

  10. What a great idea! I love it. Definitely excellent use of a $20 map :)

  11. Great ideas! I would not have thought to paper the back of a cabinet with a map, but it looks fabulous!

Visiting from I Heart Naptime. Have a great weekend!
