Savannah: The Beach

We spent a wonderfully cloudy afternoon rollicking in the waves down at Tybee.  99% of the time, life with the three boys looks pretty much like this…

…but occasionally I am able to snag a sweet moment like this…

July 2012 976 copyAnd while it’s pretty much a miracle to have two littles looking at the camera and smiling, it’s actually this one that melts my momma heart…

July 2012 977 copy …the two most precious things in the world to me - big brother confidently smiling at the camera and little brother grinning from ear to ear while he adoringly looks up at his favorite person on earth.

As an early evening storm rolled in, we wrapped up our day with our regular Monday visit to Tybee Social for fish tacos and margaritas.  The babies dined at their very own table (which was more a treat for us than them in many ways) and the PCP was introduced to the Mrs Pac Man / Galaga table game (identical to the very one we used to play on Friday nights at the Pizza Inn about thirty years ago.)

July 2012 985How is school already looming so dangerously close on the calendar?  I’m so not ready for these long days and late nights to end!

Savannah: One Last Summer Visit

With school starting in a few short weeks (say it isn’t so!), we’re making one last trip down to Savannah for the summer.  After practicing for hours on end in the car, the PCP was absolutely giddy to get to historic Leopold’s Ice Cream Parlor to participate in the “I Pledge” program where children are rewarded with a free ice cream cone for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance from memory.

Leopold's Ice Cream

I was beaming with pride as he confidently and passionately recanted “I pledge allegiance … and to the Publix for which it stands … ONE nation under God in-da-is-iv-vis-able with … for aaaaaaaaaalllllll”  We are loyal Publix shoppers through the ranks of this family, but that takes it to a whole ‘nother level!

After he devoured his tutti-frutti (“it’s healthy with all that fruit”) and Cookie went to town on his chocolate chocolate chip (“healthy? I don’t know no healthy!”), we had grand plans to hit Forsyth Park and the sprayground right when the afternoon thunderstorm rolled in.  So, we laughed ourselves silly in Ice Age 3: Continental Drift and sang “we are family!  we are ham and cheese!” the whole way home.

The littles went down surprisingly easy for our first night at Mimi and Ampa’s house, so I stuffed my gullet on Daddy-O’s homemade tacos and am about to snuggle up with Mary Kay Andrews’ new read!!

Nighty night!

Rosemary Beach: Until Next Year

Today was our last day at the beach…many memories were made this week!  Before we hit the road home, I tortured my boys with family photos.  By the time we got ready, I figured the beach would be swarming with sun lovers so we took to one of Rosemary’s lovely tree lined walkways for this year’s picture.

Rosemary Beach: Shopping 30-A

It rained most of the morning so Daddy-O was a doll to go grab us two boxes of doughnuts from Charlie’s Doughnut Truck at Alys Beach!  You have to get there early (there was a line at 6:15 AM) because they only stay open until they run out.

Always a model example of resourcefulness, Mother produced a tie die kit and shirts that she’d brought to entertain the littles.  They loved working on their shirts and can’t wait to wear them!
July 2012 774 July 2012 779When the rain let up, we quickly headed out to the pool for the littles to burn off some steam.July 2012 781 July 2012 785 July 2012 788 July 2012 789And with the little’s sufficiently tuckered out, Sister’s Mister drove Mother, Sister and I down 30-A to explore some shops.
The best of the best was without-a-doubt Beau Interiors at Grayton Beach.  Sister discovered this gem last year and I was chomping at the bit to get there this trip!  There were countless things that I could have brought home – I was pretty much speechless for the first few minutes after waking in the store.

iphone 1372And, of course, we stopped in the Lilly Store in WaterColor.  It has one of the best selections of any signature store I’ve shopped, has a great sale rack and carries a full line of mens and minnies too.
To repay Sister’s Mister for driving us around in the rain, we had to forego the cute cafe in Grayton for lunch at The Red Bar.  The last time I dined at this ummm…eclectic (?) establishment (complete with red string lights, velvet curtains, a papered ceiling and a disco ball) was so many moons ago that one person in our party used his cell phone as a spoon for his mashed potatoes and the rest of us have only hazy memories of the night. In all seriousness, the food is good, the atmosphere is unique and our chauffer was terribly pleased with his good fortune.
iphone 1371 Back at home we had time for the PCP to (legitimately) dominate us at Monopoly before our requisite trip to Sugar Shak.

iphone 1375iphone 1377 iphone 1378Once again, Mother and Daddy-O stayed home with the littles while we headed out for dinner and cocktails.  Bentley’s is a new place in Seacrest and pretty much the only game in town if you’re looking for eats after nine o’clock.  In fact, their happy hour starts at nine and the guys were beyond thrilled to find seats at the bar with the British Open on the big screens.
July 2012 790 And that wraps up our last night at the beach.  This is always the most bittersweet part of vacation!

Rosemary Beach: Water Logged
