Unbelievable Reese’s Bars

Y’all, Reese’s are hands down without a doubt my all time favorite candy concoction.  And this no-bake homemade variety is even more unbelievable than the original!!

January 2013 026 copy

Reese’s Bars
3 sticks margarine, divided
18 oz-ish jar creamy peanut butter
1 lb bag/box confectioners sugar
1.5 cups graham cracker crumbs
12 oz semi sweet chocolate chips

Melt two sticks of margarine.  Thoroughly combine it with peanut butter, sugar and graham cracker crumbs.  Press into lightly greased baking dish (I use large rectangle pyrex).  Melt chocolate chips with last stick of margarine in microwave.  Spread on top.  Refrigerate well and cut into squares.

I’ll have you know that this is the only recipe I have that specifically calls for margarine.  And while it seems so decidedly un-Southern to use margarine rather than butter, I don’t mess with it because it’s just SO darn good!!

Now, I cannot be held responsible if this causes anyone to fall off the boat on their new year’s resolutions :-)

The PCP ran a fever last night but seems fit as a fiddle and fever free this morning.  There was no way I was sending him to school when 1) he had a 103 temp at ten last night and 2) the flu is crazy bad here and he is/was obviously already fighting something.  I have sentenced him to a rainy day full of lying on the sofa, sipping powerade and getting loved by mommy.

xoxo

Those look so yummy! Hope your little one feels better! Both of my girls had the flu before Christmas and it was horrible. I hope he stays fever free today!

Take care,

Trish

Holy cow this sounds delish!!! I bet it won't last a day around my house. Hope the PCP continues to feel better. My William only went to school 1 1/2 days last week due to sickness. Thank Heavens for the flu shot. I think it kept him from becoming sicker. Happy rainy Monday!!

My daughter (1st grader too) ran a high fever on and off for nearly 2 weeks before Christmas. Turned out it was a sinus infection the sweet lil thing couldn't fight off. Hope PCP feels better soon... you are smart for keeping him home.

The reese's bars look like a great idea for Super Bowl Sunday. Are they gooey & mess though?

They look so yummy and sinful! Hope the PCP is feeling better soon. It is going around. I had it before Christmas, and only ran a high fever one day, and so did my daughter, but still had all the other symptoms for a week!

They are the New Orleans toile from Hazelnut on Magazine Street!

Sounds yummy! My oldest son is a peanut butter lover. And I agree with you on keeping PCP home. I rather liked those days when the kids stayed home and they were not frighteningly ill, just ailing. It is fun to spoil them.

i made this recipe from pinterest over the weekend and they were really good! mine called for 2 cups of graham crackers, but i thought that was too much once we started eating them, the cup and a half was just right, i bet! these are definitely not something to make often if one is wanting to trim the hips!!!! :)

Just read your post on the "Big Boy Room". I love the way you decorated this room! So cute! I was wondering though, where did you find fabric wide enough to make the duvet cover? I'm trying to find fabric to cover a twin comforter which is 68" X 86". THe widest fabric I can find is 54". How did you do it?!

Thanks,
Sarah

Sarah, I think it was 59" fabric from ikea. It fit the twin duvet insert from target perfectly, leaving just about an inch for seams! It must be smaller than yours.

looks so yummy, very similar to peanut butter balls without all the work of rolling and dipping each ball. I would totally make this if I had the will power not eat the whole tray! lol! thanks for sharing!
